Dan and Sue Miller, Founders of Agape House
Amber Smith, General manager & Inspiration for Agape House recovery
Recovery is possible and I'm living breathing
proof, I believe that every story of addiction is
unique however we all come from a really dark,
ugly, sinful, and desperate place, That place may
look different for each of us but it's also what
unites us when we leave that place and begin to
recover because we have the ability to understand
how much courage it took, how deeply we wanted to
change, and how bad we had to hurt to finally
break the cycle, Without submission there's no
willingness to follow through and I'm here to attest
to how powerful God is in that moment of
submission, I'm here to attest to the fact that God
hears and heard our cries all along!
The greatest glory in living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall. -Nelson Mandela
Sue’s Bio:
I have experienced the hardships and deprivation of addiction from childhood through adulthood. When I turned 30, I started working in the Drug and Alcohol field. I worked for 20 years in an in-patient Drug and Alcohol treatment facility as the Administrative Assistant, sharing an office with the Executive Director and learned about addiction at every possible level. The facility that I had worked in had changed the person that I was forever, eyes wide open. I saw firsthand the devastation that addiction creates in lives, families, friends, loved ones, etc. (the ripple effect) I have never met anyone that as a child, said I want to grow up and be an addict and lose everything good in my life, but yet I saw the devastation happen to thousands of amazing people over the years.
But God demonstrated His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8
Dan’s Bio:
I had worked in the Drug and Alcohol field as a maintenance mechanic for 12 years and saw firsthand the devastation that addiction has on lives. I also grew up with a father that was addicted till I lost him at age 17 due to his choices. I myself have a history of abusing drugs and have gone through treatment. I have had many difficulties and struggles to get to where I am today but with God all things are possible.
The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you: He will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid: do not be discouraged. Deuteronomy 31:8
Our journey:
Our journey with Agape House started when our daughter went through her own pain of addiction. She was the inspiration for founding Agape House. Our daughter went through detox, rehab and then we began looking for a Christ Centered recovery house for her to enter. We were unable to find one, so she went into a secular recovery house which helped her secularly but did not feed her Spirit.
“Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.
See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting”. Psalm 139:23
We put together a team; Dan, Sue, Amber, Pastor Randy and his wife Donna. We committed to get in prayer for 30 days to really hear Gods voice for direction in opening our own Christ Centered home for women. Well, the enemy tried to stop our dream and on day 30 covid shut down our economy.
But the Lord is faithful, who will establish you and guard you from the evil one. 11 Thessalonians 3:3
October 2020, Agape House became a reality for us!! We opened our first home for women, with Amber living on sight and managing women in need of love and restoration. We had so many people come along side of us to help, donate, pray, whatever the need was God put someone in our path to meet that need. We are so thankful and humble to have this opportunity to now come along side of women in need of a Savior to learn how to love themselves and others.
For the Son of man has come to seek and to save that which was lost. Luke 19:10
Recovery is possible!!! We opened during the pandemic and we’re not going anywhere!!
I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength. Philippians 4:13
